Within the School of Humanities and Social Sciences, students can pursue a number of academic degree programs, including those available in the Department of Communication.
The progressive, new Jules L. Plangere, Jr. Center for Communication features:

- MU Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA) offices
- CommWorks: Students Committed to Performance (student-run performance group) multimedia classroom with theatrical lighting and a stage
- State-of-the-art computer laboratory
- Departmental/faculty offices and classrooms

The experienced faculty members provide students with the skills and confidence they need for today's competitive job market. Some media classes are taught by working professionals who bring their expertise to the well-established curriculum, courses and special topics.

The undergraduate and graduate programs provide a blend of academic and career applicable techniques, while the minors program, such as screen studies, allows students to enhance their major with communication cross training. Students can gain recognition in this major for their academic excellence with the MU Lambda Pi Eta National Honor Society.
