Visiting Writer Presentation
Andy Behrman, author of
Electroboy: A Memoir of Mania
Tuesday, March 31, 2015
Wilson Hall Auditorium, Monmouth University
will be available for purchase and for signing by the author before and after the speaking engagement from 6-7pm and 8:30-9:30pm. This event is free and open to the public; no continuing education credits are offered for attendance. Refreshments will be served.
Electroboy is Andy's chronicle of his battle with bipolar disorder - the euphoric highs and desperate lows. He was misdiagnosed by more than eight doctors and even when he was finally diagnosed with this chronic illness, he was unsuccessful on any regimen of medication. With no hope of his condition stabilizing, he turned to the last resort: electroshock therapy/electroconvulsive therapy (ECT).
This program is being sponsored by the Department of Psychological Counseling, the School of Education's Department of Speech Pathology, Educational Counseling and Leadership, Counseling and Psychological Services, and the undergraduate Psychology Club.

The Counseling Alumni Connection (CAC)
hosted a Wellness Workshop on Saturday, December 6, 2014 in Samuel Hays Magill
Commons at Monmouth University. Over 20 alumni, presenters, and
facilitators attended the event. It was a great success, with some of
the highlights being Zumba, yoga, meditation, therapy dogs, a self-care
presentation by department faculty member Dr. Laura Schmuldt, and
wonderful prizes. Attendees mingled and had refreshments while catching
up with each other and enjoying a day of wellness. The CAC hopes to plan
another Wellness Workshop in the future. Thank you to all who attended
and helped make this event possible!
CAC Kick-Off Event:
The CAC Kick-Off Event was held on Saturday, September 20th at the department's location in the Monmouth Park Corporate Center. Over 40 people attended including alumni and guests, for a great day of reconnecting, networking, and sharing their Monmouth stories. Three department faculty members also attended: Dr. Gary Handler, Dr. Joanne Jodry, and Dr. Laura Schmuldt. The feedback from this event was outstanding. Please take a look at the event photos on our alumni Facebook page and in the photo gallery below. Thank you to everyone who attended the kick-off, including our wonderful faculty, and a BIG thank you to our CAC co-founders Erica Lapid, Matt Tirrell, and Jen Trimarchi who worked incredibly hard on the planning and facilitating.
