Each year Monmouth University works with non-profit agencies and schools to help make the holidays brighter for some of the neediest families in our community. Clubs, organizations, and University departments “adopt” the families for the holidays.
The following agencies and schools have requested food and/or gifts for the holidays:
Manna House is a transitional housing facility for homeless women and their children. “Graduates” have spent one year in the program and are now living on their own in subsidized housing. Each graduate family is “adopted” by a student group or a department.
The Long Branch Public School system provides a list of homeless families living in nearby motels as well as their neediest families.
The Monmouth University Bookstore’s Give A Little, Get A Little food drive exchanges donations of canned goods with a discount coupon that students and employees can use to buy imprinted items. The donations are given to the Long Branch Public Schools.
The SGA Giving Tree is a wonderful source of holiday gifts for needy families. The Giving Tree, located on the first floor of the Student Center and in other buildings on campus, provides hundreds of holiday gifts for families identified by community agencies and schools. Each year the Student Government Association decorates the trees and helps sort and deliver gifts to the families in need.
