Experiential Education
One of Monmouth University's programs of distinction is the Experiential Education component of our curriculum. Monmouth is proud to be among the few institutions of higher education in the United States to have Experiential Education as a requirement for all students.
WHAT IS EXPERIENTIAL EDUCATION?
Experiential Education, also known as Ex Ed, is a unique program that helps students to link classroom academics with real-world experiences.
Here are some important things to know about Ex Ed:
- All undergraduate students at Monmouth must complete the Experiential Education requirement before graduating.
- The Experiential Education requirement may be completed in various ways, including paid and unpaid internships, cooperative education, service learning placements benefitting the community, research, an Experiential Education course, or study abroad for a semester. With so many ways to satisfy Ex Ed, the requirement is tailor-made for everyone.
- Ex Ed placements may be in corporations, local businesses, nonprofits, government, or schools. Due to Monmouth's great location, opportunities are available in New York City and Philadelphia, as well as in nearby towns.
- Each academic department on campus can help students with their Experiential Education requirement.
Other offices that can assist students include Cooperative Education, Service Learning and Community Programs (both in the Center for Student Success), and Study Abroad.
