The Rapid Response Institute hosted an event
Insights from Deepwater Horizon Gulf Oil Spill
Speakers:
Steven Kegelman, O’Brien’s Response Management
Chris Baggot, TetraTech
The current research contract of the Rapid Response Institute called RISES, "Rapid Information Sharing for Event Decision Support" utilizes the Deepwater Horizon Gulf Oil Spill as one disaster scenario as part of its research. In RISES, the Institute is interested in articulating and illustrating the incident-response technologies of the future but also needs to understand the issues of today’s response approaches.
Toward that end, two speakers who were active in the Gulf Oil Spill presented information describing their activities on Thursday, February 10, 2011, at Monmouth University. They spoke of communications in the response including public information dissemination management and water sample collection and analysis. These will create some further insights for RISES, but may also have broader interest to other University disciplines including UCI, Communications, and Chemistry.
