• The Presidential Task Force on Alcohol

The Presidential Task Force on Alcohol was formed in the fall of 2005. We know the use and abuse of alcohol by students is a great challenge for many colleges and universities. That is why President Gaffney appointed 19 members of the Monmouth University community, as well as local community members, to examine the issue of alcohol from many different perspectives.

Chairpersons of the Presidential Task Force on Alcohol included Suanne Schaad, MA, LCADC, Substance Awareness Coordinator, and Dr. Carolyn Bradley from the Social Work Department.

The task force was charged with the following tasks:

    • Monitor the Social Norms Grant
    • Assess the current alcohol policy as well as education and prevention efforts
    • Review Homecoming and tailgating practices
    • Identify leadership campuses regarding their programs, policies and activities

Due to the complexity of the topic, three subcommittees were formed to address the following areas:

    • Campus culture
    • Social Norms Grant
    • Policy, procedures, and sanctions
